Workers at Turkish Turk Telekom went to strike on Tuesday after talks collapsed due to disagreements on salary and working hours.

"26,000 Turk Telekom workers started a strike this morning," Haber-Is union Deputy Chairman - Yahya Memis.

Union officials said a prolonged strike might affect unlisted Turk Telekom's services such as Internet and fixed-line telephones.

A 55 percent stake in Turk Telekom was sold to Saudi Oger Telecom in 2005 in a part privatisation, with the rest still belonging to the state.
